"MY FATHER'S LEGS" by Sara Perović
The pocket-size edition by artist and architect Sara Perović takes you through an obsessive sequence of photographs of her partner's legs practicing a forehand in all kinds of non-tennis-related settings. The repetition is interrupted only by a few intervals of pink paper containing archival photographs from a 1984-tennis manual, in which we see the author’s father teaching tennis.
“My father was obsessed with tennis and his obsession became mine.”
The work could be understood as an attempt at visualizing the fragmentation of human relationships caused by an obsession. And while Perović’s approach is light, witty, almost mathematical, it seems to me that its simplicity is misleading. What looks like a collection of just legs at first, pushes the boundaries of existing discourse on the female gaze in photography. – Maya Hristova, founder and curator of EEP Berlin
